French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday attends a solemn ceremony in Nice to mark the tenth anniversary of the July 14, 2016, terror attack on the city’s Promenade des Anglais, which killed 86 people and injured more than 400.

Later Tuesday, the French national football team will hold a minute of silence ahead of the France-Spain World Cup 2026 semi-final in Dallas, Texas.

In a post on X, Macron thanked FIFA’s president for responding to France’s request for a minute’s silence commemoration. 

“Before France-Spain, a minute of silence will be observed in tribute to the victims of the Nice attack, ten years after July 14, 2016,” Macron said in a post on X before going on to thank FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

“Thank you to the President of FIFA for responding to the request of France and of all French people who have mobilised. We will never forget.”

Exactly 10 ten years ago, Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel, a Tunisian national, drove a truck through crowds celebrating Bastille Day in the southern French city, wreaking havoc on the national holiday.

The Islamic State (IS) group claimed the attack. Lahouaiej-Bouhlel was shot dead by the police at the scene.
