Speaking with FRANCE 24’s Monte Francis, Stefan Doerr, Director of the Centre for Wildfire Research at Swansea University, says that “we need to prepare the environment more to reduce the risk of fire but we will never eliminate it competely”. France on Monday battled to contain a fire that scorched about 1,200 hectares in a forest south of Paris. Throughout the day, aircraft in the skies and firefighters on the ground were trying to douse the flames.
