Sebastian Stan delivers one of his biggest transformations yet in “Fjord”, Cristian Mungiu’s tense Competition drama about a Romanian family who move to rural Norway and become increasingly isolated from the local community. Co-starring Renate Reinsve, the film marks Stan’s first role in Romanian.
Nicolas Winding Refn also returns to Cannes Film Festival after a decade away with “Her Private Hell” – a neon-drenched horror thriller starring Sophie Thatcher, Kristine Froseth and Havana Rose Liu as young actresses caught in a violent futuristic city stalked by a mysterious killer.
And Pedro Almodovar is back in Competition with “Bitter Christmas”, a deeply personal drama about filmmaking, creativity and ageing – already fuelling speculation that this could finally be his Palme d’Or year.
